Performer Spotlight: Amanda Rodriguez (she/her)

I've been attending the jams for almost 15 years now. I stumbled upon them biking home on the lakefront trail, back before I knew there was a Facebook group and you kinda just had to be in the right place at the right time. It was absolutely magical.

Seeing all the amazing performers at the jams definitely inspired me to pick up my first prop, which was a staff. I practiced for over two years before I tried my first lit prop at my friend Austen Cloud's. I played with fire another five years just for fun before I got my first paid fire gig and started coming to the jams to perform. And now I'm an insured, safety certified fire performer.

My favorite thing about the jams is the energy everyone creates. Being in the middle of the drum circle is electric.

It is such a treat to be able to dance to this organic primal rhythm especially when the music we encounter in creative spaces is largely edm. I'm looking forward to teaching in the winter workshop series. Stay tuned for dates and details!
